First Steps

How Churches Serve.

RefugeKC exists to welcome refugees as our new-American neighbors with Gospel-focused ministries of mercy so they might know the love of Christ and follow Him into His Kingdom.

We are a Christian non-profit ministry dedicated to glorifying God by welcoming the stranger among us. One of the primary ways we do this is by empowering and mobilizing local churches to welcome and serve displaced people who settle in Kansas City.

Adopt-A-Family.

Your congregation can Adopt-A-Family through RefugeKC. We offer a four-step process.
1. Commit
Commit as a small group to minister to a refugee family in the Northeast by preparing a welcome gift for them. PRAY!
2. Connect
Determine a date with Refuge to meet the family as a group and deliver the welcome gift.
3. Cultivate
Follow up through the following months by going back to visit and pray for this family, while being sensitive to their need for relationship, winter clothing, English practice, and other practical things. Remain open to God’s leading to read and talk about the Bible with them. Share a meal with them.
4. Conclude
Meet with the family for a concluding time by either passing on these relationships, introducing them to others, and if needed to delegate the Bible reading [discovery] group to another leader.

Why It Matters.

The Sojourner, The Alien, The Stranger
At RefugeKC, we offer several programs that mobilize and empower churches to serve the refugee... the sojourner, the alien, the stranger.

Sojourner
A sojourner is a person who resides temporarily in a place.
We are strangers before thee, and sojourners. 1 Chronicles 29:15.
“We are only foreigners living here on earth for a while, just as our ancestors were. And we will soon be gone, like a shadow that suddenly disappears.”  (1 Chronicles 29:15)
Alien
An Alien is foreigner residing in a country.
The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. (Psalm 146:9)
Stranger
A Stranger is one who is neither a friend nor an acquaintance; A foreigner, newcomer, or outsider; A visitor or guest.
For I (Jesus) was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. (Matthew 25:34-36)
Refugee
Refugees are people who have been forced to flee their home country and are unable to return because of a well-founded fear of persecution due to race, nationality, religion, or membership in a particular social group or political opinion.
