Sheldon VazquezSheldon became a Christian at age 16 when the importance of receiving forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus was clearly and compassionately presented to him by several high school friends. He married Cindy when they were both 25 years old. Cindy had become a Christian when she was 16 years old. Their faith walk, corporately and individually, quickly became the driving force in their lives as a couple. Jesus Christ was always the head of their family, careers, relationships, and marriage. Sheldon and Cindy have three children together: Thomas (TJ), Molly and Jennifer. Cindy was called Home on February 28, 2020 after a six year battle with ovarian cancer. Sheldon says of the time since loosing Cindy that "the comfort I've since received exceeds my vocabulary. I look forward to worshipping Jesus Christ face to face when I'm called Home, whenever that might be. Until then I'm trying to be of use to God here. To God be the Glory."
Sheldon retired from the US Navy (after 20 years) and the Shawnee Mission School district where he was a Navy Junior ROTC instructor at Shawnee Mission West Hight School for 13 years. He served in the same capacity for two years at Willard Hight School in Willard, Missouri prior to moving to Overland Park. He was ordained as a deacon in 2000 while attending a Southern Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA. Since Cindy's home going, Sheldon says the Lord has been teaching him how to deal with grief in a Christlike way since Jesus Himself was acquainted with grief. |
